Volunteer Role Purpose

To support Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) Community Services by offering time, skills, and enthusiasm to lead and facilitate engaging adult craft sessions, promoting creativity, social interaction, and well being among participants. This role supports the library’s commitment to providing inclusive, enriching activities for the local community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver craft sessions suitable for adults, including activities such as paper crafts, mixed media, seasonal projects, and upcycling (All materials will be provided by the library service).
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants of all skill levels.
  • Prepare materials and set up the space before each session.
  • Encourage conversation and social interaction among group members.
  • Support participants with guidance and encouragement during activities. 
  • Ensure health and safety standards are maintained during sessions.
  • Consult with the library Lead Officer to coordinate scheduling, plan activities, order materials, and gather feedback.

Requirements 

  • Creative with genuine interest in arts and crafts
  • Ability to lead and engage groups of adults in a friendly and inclusive manner
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of team
  • Commitment to safeguarding and equality, diversity, and inclusion principles
  • Willing to undertake a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check if required 

Skills & Experience (desirable / essential)

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills (Essential)
  • Friendly, approachable, and  of a reliable nature (Essential)
  • Awareness of health, safety, and safeguarding principles (Essential) 
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of team (Essential)
  • Able to travel between libraries if required (Desirable)
